A Friend in Need is a Friend Indeed
Once there were two friends. They lived in a certain village. They promised that they would help each other at the time of danger. One day they were passing through a deep forest. At that time, a terrible incident happened. They saw a bear coming towards them. One of the friends knew how to climb up a tree. So, he climbed up a tree promptly. The other friend didn't know how to climb up a tree. So, he lay down on the grass and acted as he was dead. The bear came near the lying friend, smelt the body and thought it to be a deadbody. As the bear does not eat a deadbody, he went away. Then the first friend got down from the tree and asked his friend. "What did the beer whisper to you? In reply the second friend said that the bear gave him a good advice. The bear said "Never believe a friend who leaves you in danger." At this, the first friend was ashamed and went away without saying anything.
অনুবাদ : একদা দুই বন্ধু বাস করত। তারা এক গ্রামে বাস করত। তারা প্রতিজ্ঞা করেছিল যে, বিপদের সময় তারা পরস্পরকে সাহায্য করবে। একদিন তারা এক গহীন বনের মধ্য দিয়ে যাচ্ছিল। ঐ সময় এক ভয়ানক ঘটনা ঘটল। তারা একটি ভাল্লুক তাদের দিকে আসতে দেখল। এক বন্ধু জানতো কিভাবে গাছে উঠতে হয়। তাই সে তৎক্ষণাৎ গাছে উঠে গেল। অন্য বন্ধু জানতনা কিভাবে গাছে উঠতে হয়। তাই সে গাছের উপর শুয়ে পড়ল এবং মৃত মানুষের ভান করল। ভাল্লুকটি শায়িত লোকটির কাছে এল, শরীরের গন্ধ নিল এবং একে মৃতদেহ ভাবল। ভাল্লুক মৃতদেহ খায় না বলে চলে গেল। তখন প্রথম বন্ধু গাছ থেকে নামল এবং তার বন্ধুকে জিজ্ঞেস করল, "ভাল্লুক তোমার কানে কানে কি বলেছে?" উত্তরে দ্বিতীয় বন্ধু বলল যে, ভাল্লুক তাকে একটি ভালো উপদেশ দিয়েছে। ভাল্লুক বলেছে, "যে বন্ধু তোমাকে বিপদে ফেলে চলে যায় তাকে কখনও বিশ্বাস করিও না।" এতে প্রথম বন্ধু লজ্জিত হলো কিছু না বলে চলে গেল।
